For many years now The Exaltics have been holding up the flag for underground electro and subaquatic techno bass in the vein of Drexciya and Dopplereffekt.

Undeterred by trends and fashions the production outfit from Eastern Germany has been releasing its music via labels like Transient Force, Z-Bop, and the project’s own Solar One imprint, set up in 2006.

2010 turned out to be a break-trough year for The Exaltics, who signed to The Hague’s legendary Bunker label for a monumental three-part album series.

The recent release of ‘1000 Lights in the Sky Part 1’, ‘Part 2’ and ‘Part 3’ coincides with a renewed interest in electro fuelled by the current wave of UK producers like Instra:mental and dBridge, and lays out The Exaltics’ musical vision in full for the first time.

Dark and sinister and more reduced than ever before, the three volumes summon the spirit of Drexciyan electro by oscillating between clear-cut analogue synth funk and crunched-up 808 and 303 driven acid bass across 25 intricately crafted tracks.

“The mentality of the machines considering the assembly lines of automotive companies… uh, y’know, we’ve gotten our inspiration from that decay. We’re all pretty, um, interested in synthesisers and drum machines and all that because it has a lot to do with our background in machines with automotive factories. So, we just kinda put our soul into that machine and that’s how techno became what it is today.” — Carl Craig

So, okay, this has put me over the edge. I will definitely be spending my accumulated air miles and making my long-postponed pilgrimage to Detroit, my spiritual, musical home, this year!
