Dinosauruxia: ‘Time Is Unfolding’ taster (2010)

Time Is Unfolding EP out worldwide through MISF*TSOUNDS on the 26th of August 2010.

“One of Finland’s most promising new indie bands, the experimental electro pop duo Dinosauruxia, will release a new ep on the Misf*tsounds label. The ep will be released digitally on 8th of September, and it is already out on a limited, numbered run of 100 c-cassettes.

‘Time Is Unfolding’ -ep includes four tracks, of which the lead track ‘Sky (Time Is Unfolding)’ and ‘Bubbles’ have been enchanting audiences at the duo’s gigs all year, from clubs to this year’s Flow Festival. Also included are two previously unheard songs, including the beautiful ‘Sun On’, sung in Finnish.

Dinosauruxia is a duo of two 19-year olds Emilia Lagk and Sanna Lehto. A duo of two girls, equal measures sweet and hauntingly mysterious, they’re reminiscent of CocoRosie, Bat For Lashes or even Björk, yet they are developing a unique sound of their own. Their material consists of painstakingly crafted home-grown electronic and electro-acoustic beats, strong synths and bold melodies sung with brooding intensity.

Dinosauruxia has previously released a split 7” on Moron Says What and a debut single ‘Safe’ on Misf*tsounds. Born out of a club night established in 2007, MISF*TS is a Helsinki-based dj-duo, who run the MISF*TSOUNDS label for releasing upcoming Finnish bands since November 2009”

‘As the second release on MISF*TSOUNDS, we’re proud to present “Safe”, the debut single of another exciting new band from Finland, Dinosauruxia. A duo of two girls, equal measures sweet and hauntingly mysterious, they give CocoRosie a run for their money. Yet, with influences ranging from Erik Satie to Saint Etienne and songs reminiscent of Bat For Lashes or even Björk, they do have a unique sound of their own. Their take on experimental pop consists of painstakingly crafted electronic beats, dark synth riffs and bold melodies sung with brooding intensity. Again, the single is backed with a MISF*TS remix co-produced with Kutikula. The single will be out digitally on 18th Feb and as a 7” vinyl shortly afterwards.’

Finnish music magazine Rumba has in its latest issue (2/10, 5 February 2010) a cover story on the latest batch of trendy Finnish synth/electropop duos: TV Off, Villa Nah, and Zebra and Snake. Namechecked too are such up-and-coming scenesters as Helsinki 78-82 and Hannulelauri; also the Misf*tsounds, a new record label of the Helsinki club Misf*ts, whose first release is ‘The Colours’ 7” by Zebra and Snake, backed by the remix from Misfit*s. Misf*tsounds’ second release will be the debut 7” by female electronic duo Dinosauruxia, out this month. But will this new scene live up to the expectations (such as the heavily-hyped Le Corps Mince de Françoise has already generated) — only time will tell.
